There have been some classic Manchester City matches down the years. As of the beginning of the 2016/17 season, the Blues have played against 45 different teams in the Premier League – and The Halcyon Digest: Classic Manchester City matches revisited looks back at a home and away match against each of them from some time in the club’s history.
Each member of the Typical City team has written about some memorable games – good and bad – and they’ve been joined by some influential guests too.
There are memories from David Mooney, Rob Toole, Dan Burke, Richard Burns, Alex Timperley, and Ciaran Murray – along with guests Gary James, Simon Mullock, Howard Hockin, Christie McDonald, Guy Burke, Rob Pollard, and Simon Curtis.
About the Halcyon Digest
The Halcyon Digest has been a semi-regular feature on Typical City for several seasons. It began as a retro item to look back at old matches involving Manchester City, usually one that contained a significant event in the club’s history, all written by Rob Toole.
Ahead of the 2015/16 season, Rob was joined by David Mooney in writing the articles – which not only reviewed the events of the game in question, but also looked at the situation the club was in at the time and threw in a little bit of pop culture of the era too.
For that year, Rob and David wrote a piece to coincide with every Premier League match City played. There were 19 home reports and 19 away reports, all published ahead of the corresponding match in the fixture list.
Since its inception in 1992, City have spent 19 years in the Premier League. To mark the 20th year in the reformed top flight, The Halcyon Digest: Classic Manchester City matches revisited has taken a look back at each of the 45 opposition teams City have faced in the competition and remembered a classic encounter.
