PLAYER RATINGS: Manchester City vs Everton

Joe Hart – 6

Definitely suspect for Lukaku’s goal as he should’ve got a firmer hand to the shot. Besides that, he was rarely troubled by Everton. Managed to distribute the ball better today which is also encouraging.

Zabaleta – 6.5

Troubled by Naismith early on but managed to compose himself later on, further forward on the field. Definitely entitled to go down for the penalty after being tugged down by Coleman.

Kompany – 5

Always a pleasure watching Kompany but his poor injury record is stopping him from getting a decent run of games. We’ve been woeful at times without him so let’s hope he isn’t out for long.

Lescott – 7

A solid performance from Lescott against a powerful striker in Lukaku. Left for dead for the first goal but completely shut Lukaku out of the game afterwards. Read the game well and managed to sniff out threats early.
Kolarov – 6.5

Another decent performance from Kolarov. Rarely troubled by Mirallas and whipped in a few dangerous crosses that should’ve been attacked better by Aguero and Negredo.

Fernandinho – 7.5

Shielded the defence well and harried Ross Barkely all game. His solid display in midfield managed to nullify the vital link between Everton’s midfield and forwards.

Yaya Toure – 7.5

Flourished (once again) when abstained from his defensive duties. Managed to keep play ticking and delivered a Xavi-esque assist for Negredo’s goal. Yaya also completed 95% of his passes, the highest on the pitch.

Milner – 7

Another solid outing by Milner who managed to nullify Everton’s famed left-hand side of the pitch. His intelligent positioning managed to nullify Baines’ attacking threat. I also particularly enjoyed it when he took out two Everton players with one tackle.

Silva – 8.5

What can I say that hasn’t been said about our Spanish wizard? Another magisterial performance from David, oozing class and superior technique all game. His calm distribution of the ball and ability to pick out a defence-splitting pass has been missed this past month. David’s assist for Aguero’s first was delightful and it’s great we have our little maestro back fully fit.

Aguero – 7.5

Definitely not Aguero’s best performance in a City shirt but he typified everything about himself today as he didn’t let his horrid start affect the rest of his game. His movement was excellent throughout, as was his vibrant harrying of Jagielka and Distin. Great finish for his first and unlucky to not be able to claim his second.

Negredo – 8.5

Utterly absurd he didn’t start against Bayern Munich. A dominating, aggressive presence all game, Negredo thoroughly deserved his goal. His pressing and work-rate was unreal at times today. For me, Alvaro just edges David today.

My Man of the Match.

Nastasic – 7

Could’ve given away a penalty against Lukaku but knuckled down and shut up shot after that. The fact that Lukaku was barely visible in the second half is testament to Nastastic and Lescott.

Clichy – 5.5

Didn’t really do much after replacing Kolarov. Still, Clichy will need to up his game now that he knows he has a hungry Kolarov on his tail.

Nasri – 6.5

Didn’t have much time but certainly stamped him authority on the game. Could’ve scored at the end too after a mazy run through Everton’s defence.
