Spanish winger, Jesus Navas, is close to a move to City, according to reports across Europe today. Speculation about the transfer has been widespread for some time, but it seems a deal is now imminent, with a fee of £17m plus add ons agreed with his current club Sevilla. Navas is believed to have been offered a 5-year deal.
One of City’s major problems last season was a lack of alternative to our narrow starting formation, something this transfer addresses in one fell swoop. Navas is an out-and-out winger, who attempted more crosses in La Liga last season than any other player. The 27-year-old has 23 caps for Spain, and has won the UEFA Cup twice, and the Copa del Rey twice.
Navas has apparently overcome the anxiety attacks which blighted his early international career. The right-sided winger used to struggle leaving Seville, but having travelled to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and last summer’s European Championships in Ukraine, it seems he is ready for a new challenge in the Premier League.
Navas told Marca:
I like Manchester City a lot and it has great players.
Manchester City has done all it can to bring me in and I have to be grateful for that. I want to go on and win trophies. I’m now open to anything. I want to win more and reach my goals.
