City midfielder, Jack Rodwell, has endured a frustrating debut season at City after battling with various hamstring injuries for the last three months. Rodwell came on as a second half substitute in the win over Leeds last weekend and it was evident that he is eager to impress. Rodwell has spoken to the City official site and he believes his troubles are now behind him. He said:
I have been working really hard to get back and I’m now feeling as fit as ever. There is great competition for places here – I knew that when I joined – so I have to be patient, keep trying my hardest and see what happens. My main aim now is to stay fit. That has been my main problem for the last year or so, an inability to stay fit and shrug off little injuries. That has held me back so I think if I can avoid any further set-backs, the games will come.
I tried everything to help speed up the process from moving house, changing my car and even trying different pillows! You have to rule out everything and then nothing can be a problem. I think it has worked, but it is more to do with the gym work I have been doing with City.The physios have highlighted that and done a really good job. I have stuck to a six or seven-week programme where I have not had a day off.
I have had an exhausting regime, done a lot of hamstring work and luckily, touch wood, it has solved the problem. I intend to keep that up for the rest of my career. Hopefully I will stay fit and strong. I come in early every day, have a load of treatment and then for half-an-hour before we go out to train, I work on my own. Then after training, if necessary, I stay for some more strength work, so all in all I probably do an extra hour and a half. One day it will be hamstring, another the back, or core fitness, to keep everything strong. I do yoga as well, two or three times a week, depending on how my body is feeling. Everything is helping.
