After news of his release from City emerged earlier in the week, Michael Johnson today took the unusual step of calling the Manchester Evening News to explain the reasons why his career failed.
I am more disappointed than anyone but that’s the way it goes. I have been attending the Priory Clinic for a number of years now with regard to my mental health and would be grateful if I could now be left alone to live the rest of my life.
It’s clear from this statement that Johnson has had to battle his own mind as well as his overcome injuries. It’s been disappointing for City fans to hear of such a talented player leading an unhealthy lifestyle but we should be somewhat sympathetic, too. I’m sure all fans and everyone at the club wish Michael Johnson well with the rest of his life.
