City youngster, Karim Rekik, has signed a new long-term deal at the club. The Dutch defender, 17, made two first-team appearances in last season’s League Cup.
Of the deal, Rekik said:
It was a very easy decision to make, City is a great club with a great future for me. I can develop as a player and a person at this club and that’s why I decided to stay. I feel at home, it feels like family inside at City, everybody is nice and they all speak to me so it was very easy for me to settle in. It definitely gives you a boost in confidence to be given a contract considering that we won the league last year.
Rekik went out on loan to Portsmouth last season and impressed.
My time at Portsmouth was really nice, I was there for a month, played eight games and it was a great experience for me so it’s definitely an option. I think going out on loan would be a great option to help me develop and I think that is the plan that City have got for me.
Of course people say that City just buy players but it’s about yourself – if you’re good enough to play – you play. I’ve been out for three months with a back injury but I feel 100% and I’m happy to be back and playing. I’m delighted to be staying at City.
