Roberto Mancini looks set to use the League Cup as a tool for giving games to youngsters and first team players yet to feature heavily. Ahead of the game against Aston Villa, which kicks-off tonight at 7:45pm, Mancini said:
We will change all of the players if it is possible, but we have four players injured at the moment. It’s the only English trophy I have not won, but we want to win the championship again. That is our target, and if we also win the League Cup, OK. But our target has to be the title. At the moment we have Richards, Maicon, Nasri and Milner all out injured, and they can’t play. I hope we can have two or three young players.
Mario Balotelli is likely to start after sitting out the game in Madrid and then coming on late in the Arsenal match. England under-19 player, George Evans, may also play, as could Abdul Razak, Denis Suarez and Luca Scapuzzi. Reports also suggest Carlos Tevez may play which, if true, make the decision to rest him against Arsenal on Sunday seem even more bizarre.
