Reports suggest City are keen to tie of deal for mercurial midfielder
David Silva is set to be offered a new deal in an attempt to keep him at the club for the foreseeable future; a move every City fan would welcome. Since his arrival from Valencia in 2010, Silva has established himself as the heartbeat of the City attack. It seems when Silva is on form, City play their best football.
According to widespread reports, Silva will be offered a contract until 2017 and will pocket around £200,000-a-week, a deal which would put him in the category of top earners at the club. If the length of contract being postulated proves to be true, it will keep him and Mancini at the club for the same length of time, which could be a crucial partnership for the future of the club. Talks with Silva’s officials are apparently going well and the player seems keen to commit to the club for the longterm.
It is clear that Silva will be key to any future success at City. He has become one of the most respected attacking midfielders in the Premiership, with his ability link up play high up the field his most devastating attribute. He makes City tick. The word from the players at the club is that he is extremely well-respected for his ability, and the fans certainly love him.
Speaking at the end of last season, Silva made clear how settled he is at the club, and how the faith Mancini has in him allows him to concentrate on his football.
I am very happy in England, I have two years left on my contract and I want to see it out,” Silva said. “Right now, I do not want to return [to Spain], I am enjoying life in England, people treat me wonderfully and I want to continue enjoying this.
Mancini has complete trust in me, which is very important for a player and I am very happy. My team-mates are adapting well to my game and that is very good for me.
A new deal at the level being purported would put Silva into the Tevez, Yaya and Aguero bracket, and no one could argue he doesn’t deserve to be on a par with the best at the club.
