City fans have long recognised the importance of Gareth Barry. He’s a non-flashy, keep-it-simple type of player who often gets criticism from fans of rival clubs. These criticisms are lazy. When Barry is absent, City are inferior. He’s a big player for us.
Other players at the club appear to unanimously agree. David Silva, one if the finest exponents of the beautiful game, voted Barry as his player of the year in last season’s club vote, and now Vincent Kompany has expressed his love for the role Barry plays in the City side. At £12m, Barry has proved a snip.
Kompany said today:
Gareth is an incredible player and we’ve missed him and we will obviously welcome him back.
Idiotic supporters of other clubs can deride Barry all they like but very few other sides boast a player of such consistency. Manager after manager who has worked with Barry has hailed his impact on their side, and the players and fans at City love him. Lets hope we can find a player capable of replacing him as his career enters its twilight.
