Mark Lawrenson has suggested that unless City buy more players, the Premier League title will be heading to United this season. Writing in his Daily Mirror column, former Liverpool star, Lawrenson made the fatal mistake of comparing yesterday’s woeful City performance to a United team that has yet to kick a competitive ball this season.
With United’s season starting tonight at 8pm away to Everton he said “United look in such good shape.” Well of course they do, they’ve signed one of best strikers around, Robin van Persie, but have not actually started their season yet. They’ve not had the chance to put a foot wrong.
On the back of the shaky City performance he said, “…if I were Mancini, with that Italian mentality, I’d be looking at my team thinking: Hmm, I’m not sure’.” I’m not entirely sure what relevance his Italian mentality has but with the transfer window still open additions can still be made and City still boast an array of talent. He went onto highlight the injury to Sergio Aguero which was picked up against Southampton as a grave concern, which of course it is. However, with reports that the injury is not as serious as first thought, Lawro appears to be slightly hasty in writing City’s chances off just yet.
Normally, making such bold predictions after one game of the season is foolish but when comparing this against a team that has not even kicked a ball yet it becomes ludicrous. Sometimes Lawro really is a tit.
